FAQs

What is WDCC?

WDCC (Web Development & Consulting Club Incorporated) is a not-for-profit organisation, founded by two students at the University of Auckland. WDCC aims to bridge the gap between university knowledge and real-world industry practices. We run projects with real-world clients that solve real-world problems, generally for NFP organisations or other student clubs who don't have the funding to fund a solution themselves.

What is SESA?

SESA is the Software Engineering Students Association for students and alumni of the Software Engineering programme at the University of Auckland. We organise and run social and career-focused events for our 550+ members, connecting them with each other as well as industry professionals.

What is a hackathon?

An engaging competition where you turn crazy ideas into real projects! At the WDCC x SESA Hackathon, hackers work in teams over 48 hours to design and implement their solutions related to the hackathon theme, then present their solutions in front of a panel of judges and the other competitors. We go ALL OUT, ensuring this event is fully catered and decorated and have industry sponsor representatives present to mentor and advise you. Additionally, we have cash prizes up for grabs and run fun activities throughout the hackathon. Basically, you take care of hacking and we'll take care of you!

Who can sign up?

We are open to all enrolled tertiary students who are members of WDCC and SESA (membership is free for both clubs!). Due to venue space and capacity restrictions, registration does not guarantee acceptance. You will be notified via email after the deadline.

What if I don't know how to code?

Hackathons are the perfect place and time to learn in the collaborative and energetic environment a hackathon creates. We provide industry mentors, workshops and starter hack packs on our GitHub all to help you build something you can be proud of.

What can I build?

Anything! You can build a website, app, game, or anything else you can think of related to the annual hackathon theme. We encourage you to think outside the box and also take a look at past hackathon winners for some inspiration and examples.
